Former Music Director Leopold Stokowski conducts the Houston Symphony in the first-ever commercial recording of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 11, In The Year 1905. Stokoswki and the Houston Symphony gave the U.S. premiere of this masterpiece less than a year after it was written in 1957 and made this recording shortly thereafter, introducing this symphony to Western audiences. Critics agree that this recording remains one of the definitive accounts of this work.
