Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition
Sponsored by the Houston Symphony League

The Houston Symphony challenges applicants to conceptualize and design a unique, visually exciting poster that clearly communicates the nature of and information about the Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition. The purpose of this poster is to announce and promote the event, attract contestants, and invite the community to participate as an audience. It should appeal to music students and young music professionals pursuing a career in orchestral music, and to the public to entice their attendance at the concert.

 

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The goal of the Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition is to foster excellence in musical artistry by young orchestral musicians by providing cash awards and professional performance opportunities. The competition began in 1976 and was named in honor of Miss Ima Hogg, who founded the Houston Symphony in 1913. It continues to be one of the most unique activities of the Houston Symphony League. The contestants are ages 16 through 29.

PRIZE

A prize of $500 will be awarded to the student with the winning design. The winner will also be invited to attend the Competition and some associated special events. The winning design will be determined by a panel that includes members of the Houston Symphony staff and League volunteers.

RULES

Applicants must be registered full-time or part-time college students currently enrolled for the 2011-2012 school year at an accredited Houston area institution. Verification of enrollment will be required from the winner of the 2013 Poster Contest.

Submissions must be submitted to imahoggpostercontest@houstonsymphony.org by June 1, 2012.
