Our Explorer Concerts series is now in its fourteenth year. Explorer Concerts examine orchestral music as it relates to the world. These concerts reinforce the social studies curriculum as they showcase the wonders of classical music. Concerts are appropriate for upper elementary and middle school students and are designed to relate to academic disciplines and prepare for the social studies TEKS. This year’s program is called Coming to America and will explore some of the many cultures that make up the unique blend of our great country.
The United States of America has been called a melting pot, a salad bowl, even tomato soup! Whichever of these dishes you think best reflects our country, it is the ingredients brought from every corner of the earth that have added flavor to our diverse population. Supporting the fifth grade social studies TEKS, Coming to America will demonstrate how immigration has helped shape the USA. Not only did new arrivals bring their language, traditions, and everyday culture – they brought their music. Hear selections by Bernstein and Dvorak.
