Dave Kirk

Dave Kirk has played tuba with the Houston Symphony since 1982. He was born in San Diego, CA; raised in Mobile, AL and the western suburbs of Philadelphia, PA. He began playing tuba at age 11. He was selected for the Houston Symphony during the final year of his undergraduate studies at the Juilliard School in New York City.

In addition to his work with the Houston Symphony, Mr. Kirk teaches at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. He serves on the faculties of the Texas Music Festival, the American Festival of the Arts, and he is a teaching artist presented by Young Audiences of Houston. Mr. Kirk lives in northwest Houston with his wife Laura, daughters Rachel and Grace, and their three cats (Sam, Marie and Mr. Meowums). When Mr. Kirk practices his tuba at home, the cats run out of the room.

What is the last recording/song on your ipod that you listened to?
Muse’s “The Uprising”. My daughters are presently wallowing in the depths of full-blown infatuation with this group.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?
Glacier National Park, on the Montana/Canadian border.

What is your favorite Houston destination?
Galveston. While not in Houston, it’s an interesting part of the history of the area.
