Elise Wagner

Elise has been a member of the Houston Symphony since August 2008. Born in a small town, Monroe WI, music has taken her around the country. Elise earned her Bachelors degree from Temple University where she studied with Daniel Matsukawa, Principal bassoonist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and earned her Masters degree at Carnegie Mellon University where she studied with Nancy Goeres, Principal bassoon of the Pittsburgh Symphony.

Before joining the Houston symphony, Elise played with the Toronto symphony, Sarasota Opera Company and attended Tangelwood and Aspen Music festivals and looks forward to playing in Steamboat Springs String Festival in the summer.

Get to know your musicians...

How old were you when you started playing your instrument?
I started playing bassoon in 5th grade.

What is the last recording/song on your ipod that you listened to?
Busta Rhymes album....yes classical musicians listen to things other than classical music.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?
In the United States my favorite spot is Aspen, but anywhere along the Rocky Mountains is wonderful. My favorite spot outside of the U.S. is the western coast of Spain. I still have many places to visit that could trump that someday!

What is your favorite Houston destination?
these days it is a tie between the driving range at wildcat golf course or memorial park to run and bike on the mountain biking trails. I enjoy grabbing a meal at The Hobbitt Cafe.
