Michael Krajewski, Principal Pops Conductor


Known for his entertaining programs and wry sense of humor, Michael Krajewski is a much sought after conductor of symphonic pops concerts. He joined the Houston Symphony as Principal Pops Conductor at the beginning of the 2000-01 season, and also holds that position with the Jacksonville Symphony and the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra. He enjoys a special relationship with the Atlanta Symphony where he makes frequent appearances as a guest conductor. For eleven years Michael was principal pops conductor of the Long Beach Symphony and for eight years he held the same position with the New Mexico Symphony.

Much in demand as a guest conductor with orchestras across the country, Michael has performed with the Boston Pops and the Hollywood Bowl orchestras as well as the orchestras of San Francisco, Dallas, Detroit, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Baltimore, Phoenix, San Antonio, Tampa, Portland, Rochester, Buffalo, Nashville, Memphis, Birmingham, Charlotte, Raleigh, and many more. In Canada he has appeared with Ottawa’s National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Edmonton and Winnipeg symphonies. He has performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic and has led the Ulster Orchestra in concerts in Belfast and Dublin.

Michael has collaborated with an eclectic group of artists including flutist James Galway, mezzo soprano Marilyn Horne, pianist Alicia de Larrocha, guitarist Angel Romero, and pop artists Roberta Flack, Judy Collins, Art Garfunkel, Doc Severinsen, Al Hirt, Cab Calloway, the Kingston Trio, Ben E. King, Mary Wilson, Patti Austin, Sandi Patti, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, the Canadian Brass, Pink Martini and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

With degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Michael furthered his training at the Pierre Monteux Domaine School for Conductors. He was a Dorati Fellowship Conductor with the Detroit Symphony and later served as that orchestra’s assistant conductor. He was resident conductor of the Florida Symphony and for eleven years served as music director of the Modesto Symphony Orchestra.

Michael lives in Orlando, Florida with his wife Darcy. When not conducting he enjoys travel, photography, jogging, bicycling, and solving The New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle.
