The Houston Symphony’s Opening Night Concert and Gala celebrated the 30th anniversary of ConocoPhillips’ support as the Opening Night Concert Sponsor and Opening Night Gala Lead Corporate Underwriter. Chaired by Ralph Burch, and supported by Honorary Chairs Lisa and Ryan Lance and Underwriting Chairs Robin Angly ad Miles Smith, the Gala raised more than $730,000 for the Houston Symphony’s Education and Community Programming, making it the second most successful Opening Night Concert and Gala in the history of the event.
More than 590 guests attended the Gala dinner. The evening featured Oscar® winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley narrating Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf. Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada led the musicians of the Houston Symphony in a concert program that, in addition to Peter and the Wolf, also featured Rossini’s thrilling Overture to The Thieving Magpie and Richard Strauss’ extraordinary Suite from Der Rosenkavalier.

Following the performance, the black-tie party-goers continued the evening at The Corinthian for a spectacular seated dinner catered by Jackson and Company. The décor, created by Bergner and Johnson, transformed The Corinthian into a contemporary venue with large red drum chandeliers and vibrant centerpieces. Accompanying the meal were wine pairings provided by Spec’s Wine, Spirits, & Finer Foods. The dessert, a “Symphony Trio,” in celebration of ConocoPhillips’ continued support, was garnished with a chocolate Oil Derrick.
The Richard Brown Orchestra took the stage, commencing the late night party that had guests dancing into the wee hours of the morning.
