The Robbins Foundation Lower Elementary Concerts

The Robbins Foundation Lower Elementary Concerts at Jones Hall provide a full-orchestra experience for grades 2 & 3 to allow students to gather information about the instruments in a symphony orchestra, the musicians who play them and the sounds they create. These concerts are designed to spark the imagination of students and provide motivation to be involved in music. Using grades 2 & 3 content from the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, students will connect ideas they already know from their classroom to iconic orchestral masterworks.

2016-17 Program: Musical Opposites
Robert Franz, associate conductor

With all of the instruments and musicians in the orchestra, the Houston Symphony can create a whole pallet of different musical sounds. Whether these sounds are soft or loud, high or low, fast or slow or a combination of these musical elements, the changes that the musicians make during a piece of music will keep the imagination stirring. Throughout this concert, students will compare and contrast between the musical opposites. This Musical Opposites concert supports the grades 2 & 3 TEKS for Music and Language Arts.
