Community Members
The great flexibility of the Houston Symphony is that we need not sets, special floors or exacting exhibition space. Any place where there is room for a chair, a music stand and a person can become a potential performance space. We are able to bring great musical art anywhere. From individual members to ensembles to the full orchestra, the HS has presented community programs all over Greater Houston. There is rarely a zip code, neighborhood or community that the orchestra has not touched. We take great pride in knowing that we can reach out to every nook and cranny of our metropolitan area. It may look like a school building, senior center or a park to you, but to us it is Carnegie Hall. We always come to play. See what opportunities await you.
FOR THE COMMUNITY AT-LARGE
MILLER OUTDOOR THEATRE SERIES:

Since 1941, the Houston Symphony has been spending part of its summer in the shade of the huge live oaks that surround Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park. During the month of June, the HS performs four classical concerts feature outstanding and emerging talents as conductors and guest artists. On July 4th , the Orchestra annually performs its Star Spangled Salute complete with fireworks. The season concludes in October with Lunada, a concert celebrating the music of the Americas sponsored by The Mexican Institute. Performances are free, with the option of seats under the shell or on you own blanket on the grassy hill.
SOUNDS LIKE FUN! SERIES:
During one week in June, the Houston Symphony loads all of its equipment into trucks, has its musicians hop on a bus, and travels to various types of venues throughout Houston -- from churches and neighborhood centers to schools and outdoor venues -- to perform free family-friendly concerts, as part of the Sounds Like Fun! series. In just one week, the Houston Symphony performs anywhere from 7 to 14 concerts. These are casual concerts that are fun for the entire family, complete with an Instrument Petting Zoo for children and adults of all ages to try out different instruments.
