HSL Concerto Competition

One of the oldest projects of the Houston Symphony League, this Competition is open to student musicians 18 years of age or younger who have not yet graduated from high school and who play any standard orchestral instrument or piano. This Concerto Competition aims to provide gifted, young musicians an opportunity to present their work for a forum of nationally recognized and distinguished, professional musicians so they may be encouraged to aspire to the highest levels of performing excellence through written feedback. The grand prize is $1,000 and a solo appearance with the Houston Symphony at the 2017 Salute to Educators Concert.

2016 HSL Concerto Competition Winners:

Thirteen musicians, ranging in age from 13 through 17, competed in the Houston Symphony League Concerto Competition on January 16, 2016. These exceptionally talented students represented violin, viola, cello, piano, flute, clarinet and horn. Our three judges hailed from the Houston Symphony and University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

These musicians performed an entire concerto by memory -- a feat many musicians do not accomplish until well into their college careers. Congratulations to all participants and best of luck in all of your future endeavors:
