FREE Summer Community Concerts

This summer, the Houston Symphony comes to your neighborhood with its annual FREE Summer Community Concerts. These FREE performances are relaxed, dynamic and designed for the whole family. This summer we feature an array of guest performers from the many diverse communities of Houston, including Mirron Willis (The Ensemble Theatre and Houston Shakespeare Festival) narrating Copland's Lincoln PortraitThe CityWide Grassroots Chorus; traditional Chinese instrumental virtuoso, Changlu Wu performing on the Pipa; and the well-known local Mariachi ensemble, Mariachi Los Gallitos.  The Symphony's Instrument Petting Zoo will also be on hand beginning 45 minutes prior to each concert for kids young and old to try out the instruments of the orchestra.

This summer marks the 150th anniversary of Juneteenth. Join the Houston Symphony as we recognize this significant milestone and holiday as we perform works that celebrate freedom for all including Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man and Lincoln Portrait, narrated by Mirron Willis; John Williams' Hymn to the Fallen; and works by African-American Composers including William Dawson's O' Let Me Shine and Roland Carter's Lift Every Voice and Sing. This concert will also feature the CityWide Grassroots Chorus singing with the Houston Symphony. Don't forget to arrive early for the Symphony's Instrument Petting Zoo.
